Key Control for Hospitals and Nurse Stations

Protecting Medicines, Equipment, and Storerooms

The key retaining device is being used as an effective tool for key control for access to equipment using security cable nesting, medicine cabinets and storerooms, Controlled by Head/Floor Nurse for authorized access with key control of  restricted equipment, materials or medicines.

How Key Retaining Devices Improve Safety

This application for the key retaining device, the Head/Floor Nurse has an identified/tagged release key to be inserted into the retaining device and rotated. The rotation will allow removal of retained key (master key access to capital equipment or restrict materials and medicines) and in turn traps the release key. The head/Floor Nurse release key remains trapped until the retained key is returned and rotated. After this action, the release key can be removed, with the retained key being trapped.

Accountability for Nurses and Administrator

These key retaining devices establish accountability for important keys (ex: master keys, access control, etc.) and dramatically reduce both human mistakes and risk exposure for hierarchy level keys. This key control of put and take system acts as a mechanical usage identifier and sign-out identification when active.
